Drive against tax evaders begins

NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman came up with the announcement while unveiling a statue of a tiger, which will work as a symbol to act against the dishonest people, at the NBR headquarters in the city. Cautioning the dishonest people, NBR chief said: “A new beginning has begun with the setting up a statue of a tiger to further inspire the NBR officials.” He said the NBR has so far tried to convince and encourage the taxpayers through many ways and now time has come to act as a tiger against people who evade income tax, misuse VAT payment, import products through false declaration and commit incidents like money laundering. “Different teams led by commissioners will take immediate action in cases of mismanagement in gross violation of the relevant laws of income tax, custom duties and VAT.” Similarly, the income tax inspection departments, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate and VAT Audit Intelligence and Investigation Directorate will take necessary actions as intelligence agencies,” he added. According to NBR official, the Central Intelligence Cell of NBR will start implementation of laws under direct supervision of the NBR Chairman. Nojibur Rahman also warned that the revenue authorities will strictly implement laws against those who will not comply with revenue-friendly position. The NBR officials will work for the next one month which will be evaluated on January 21. Finance Minister AMA Muhith will finally unveil the result of this activity in front of the stakeholders and political leaders while observing International Customs Day on January 26, said Nojibur. As part of the drive, not only the tax evaders will be brought to book, but also strict actions will be taken against the corruption, nepotism and willfulness of NBR officials, cautioned NBR Chairman.
