Feeling stressed? Wash dishes

Many people wash their own dishes after meals, but what they may not realize is the impact this has on their mind.

In today’s fast-paced world, stress from work is common, and as this stress increases, it starts affecting the body.

Washing dishes can become an important activity in this context.

What effect does it have on the body?

Washing dishes isn't a physically demanding task, yet many avoid it due to time constraints or laziness.

Science, however, suggests that washing dishes can effectively reduce anxiety and mental stress.

According to a study by researchers from Florida State University in the US, washing dishes can have immediate positive effects.

Professor Adam Hanley from Florida State University asserts that while washing dishes, most people become deeply focused on the task, which helps them shift away from thoughts that cause mental stress.

This focus is beneficial for mental health.

After observing 50 students over an extended period, researchers concluded that washing dishes had a noticeable impact on their mental well-being.

Professor Hanley also notes that the smell of soap and the temperature of the water play a significant role during the activity, drawing people’s attention and helping reduce stress, anxiety, and restlessness by as much as 27%.
