Can’t stop laughing? You may be suffering from a rare condition

Indian actor Anushka Shetty, known for her role in “Baahubali” said in an interview last year that she is suffering from a rare disease.

"I am suffering from Syndrome of Laughing Disease. When I start laughing, I can't stop for 15 to 20 minutes. That's my problem.”

It's not just Anushka Shetty; many people in our circle experience uncontrollable laughter, which can occur suddenly and without apparent reason.

In medical terminology, this condition is known as "Pseudobulbar palsy."

However, those affected by it not only experience uncontrollable laughter but can also suddenly begin crying uncontrollably.

Doctors say it is a type of brain disorder where patients cannot control their emotions.

As a result, even for trivial reasons, the patient's emotional expressions can be much more pronounced. Even if they want to, they may not be able to control themselves.

Pseudobulbar palsy encompasses a range of symptoms that can impact individuals with various nervous system disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, or brain damage caused by rapid correction of low blood sodium levels.

However, if you or someone you know exhibits such tendencies of uncontrollable laughter or crying, there is nothing to be alarmed about.

Neurologists, neurosurgeons, and psychiatrists can be consulted if needed.
