Lungis cost Tk200, Zara sells them for £70

Zara, a popular fashion brand with outlets in 88 countries, is attempting to sell what looks like a lungi for £70. Or in Taka, a little over Tk8,000, which could probably afford several, perhaps even a dozen lungis in Bangladesh. According to the Metro, the article of clothing dubbed a “flowing skirt” bears an uncanny resemblance to the common South Asian male garment. The lungi is a common garment for men in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, among other countries. Zara calls the lungi-style skirt a “flowing skirt with draped detail in the front, slit detail at the hem.” The absurd amount being charged for the item caused controversy due to the fact that even in the UK, lungis can be bought for as low as £3. In Bangladesh, prices of lungis vary from as low as Tk200 to as high as Tk5,000. Although Zara is very popular in the West, it has embroiled itself in several controversies over the years.

Those are def lungis. And it looks ridiculous ? Some "designer" just copied the design & nobody at Zara seems to have known better.

Lungis are popular because of their incomparable air circulation and heat transmission facilities. In countries with high humidity, lungis are often the preferred bottomwear for men in rural areas.

Of note, the lungi comes in a variety of colours and designs in Asia. Sadly, what Zara is attempting to peddle comes in only a brown check print, much to the chagrin of countless outraged social media users. However, if anyone is looking to buy the "flowing skirt" from Zara at the outrageous price, they can be found here, unless they take it down from sheer embarrassment.
