Ershad condemns Christchurch terror attack

Friday's attack left at least 49 people dead

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, also the opposition leader of the 11th parliament, has strongly condemned the terror attacks at two mosques in New Zealand.

The attacks in Christchurch left at least 49 people dead, and scores injured, on Friday.

Ershad also offered his deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims and their family members. 

Ershad’s Deputy Press Secretary Khandaker Delwar Jalali issued a press release in this regard on Friday around noon.

The Jatiya Party chief also urged the government to take the necessary steps for the safe return of Bangladesh's cricket players; they are in New Zealand for a Test match and survived the mosque attack by a narrow margin.

The party's Senior Co-Chairman Begum Rowshan Ershad , Co-Chairman GM Quader and Chief Whip and General Secretary Mashiur Rahman Ranga similarly expressed their shock and condolences .

Terror attacks on two mosques, during Friday prayers, killed at least 49 people and injured at least 20 others, said New Zealand police.

Following the attacks, Police detained four suspects, including a woman. One person has been charged with murder as of the filing of this report. 

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said it is “one of New Zealand’s darkest days”.

Earlier Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also condemned the terror attacks.

Two persons of Bangladeshi origin have reportedly been killed in the attack.
