The video is grainy, has no time stamp and the sound quality is poor, but it appears to be authentic
The Dhaka Tribune has obtained an exclusive video capturing 20 seconds of the harrowing events that unfolded inside the premises of O Kitchen and Holey Artisan Bakery on the night of July 1.
The video is grainy, has no time stamp and the sound quality is poor, but it appears to be authentic. However, Dhaka Tribune has been unable to authenticate the footage independently.
At the beginning of the video, three people – two females and a male – can be seen. They appear to be visibly shaken and are crouching on the patio outside O Kitchen.
The hostages in the video are likely to be Tahmid Hasib Khan, Maliha Fairooz and Tahana Tasmia, but it is not possible to identify them positively from the footage.
Their position outside O Kitchen is corroborated by eyewitness reports published by the Dhaka Tribune on August 1.

As the three hostages slowly move across the screen – half crouching – a quiet male voice is heard pleading: “Please bhaiya, please bhaiya …”
Two other people wearing dark outfits – evidently the attackers – are seen moving alongside the patio.
One of them is clearly brandishing a sword-like weapon. The flash of the blade is clearly visible as one of the attackers walks into view in the lower left portion of the screen ten seconds into the video.
At this point, a loud voice is heard shouting: “Listen! Listen!”
The body language of the men in black suggests that they are among the five attackers that carried out the massacre at O Kitchen restaurant.
The video also captures somebody twice shouting “Allahu Akbar.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Saiful Islam, who is investigating the case, confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune that several crowd sourced videos from the night have surfaced and are circulating.
“We are verifying the authenticity of these videos,” he said.
