The High Court has issued a rule seeking explanation as to why authorities should be directed to stop manufacture, use and re-use of plastic bottles.
Bench of Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Khurshid Alam Sarker issued the rule in response to a writ petition on Sunday.
The rule was issued for bottles used to deliver and market drinking water, beverages and other food materials for consumption.
The court also sought answers as to why it should not direct for a monitoring cell to stop the use of plastic bottles and for removing those from the market.
The health secretary, law secretary, food secretary, director general of health department, director general of BSTI, director general and secretary of environment department have been asked to respond to the rule by four weeks.

Robin told the Dhaka Tribune that they had moved the petition as the use of plastic bottles was detrimental to human being and environment.
