The sixth edition of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup was earlier scheduled to begin from next Thursday.

The Bangladesh Football Federation has decided to defer the Bangabandhu Gold Cup to January-February next year, confirmed BFF president Kazi Salahuddin Wednesday.

However, the reason behind the deferment was not cited.

The sixth edition of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup was earlier scheduled to begin from next Thursday.

“Bangabandhu Gold Cup will be held in early 2020. It doesn’t matter if we arrange it 10 days earlier or 10 days later. If we defer it by a month it could be in January,” said Salahuddin after a view-exchange meeting with the club representatives of the first, second and third division clubs at the BFF House in Dhaka Wednesday.

Sri Lanka and Mongolia earlier confirmed their participation for the November fixtures.

BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag informed that they would let them know their decision and invite them once again for the rescheduled fixtures.

Bangabandhu Gold Cup has been taking place every year since 2015 barring 2017.

The BFF boss said it is possible for them to arrange the tournament twice in 2020.
