Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Rajasthan Royals in their next match Friday in Hyderabad
Shakib al Hasan’s Sunrisers Hyderabad were off to a losing start in the 12th edition of the IPL T20 as they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata Sunday.
The Bangladesh all-rounder did not get the chance to bat as Sunrisers, asked to bat first, posted 181 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their stipulated 20 overs.
Opening batsman David Warner top-scored for his side with a 53-ball 85, featuring nine fours and three sixes, while opener Jonny Bairstow and all-rounder Vijay Shankar chipped in with 39 and 40 not out respectively.
Seamer Andre Russell bagged two wickets for Kolkata.
In reply, the Knight Riders reached their destination in 19.4 overs, opener Nitish Rana scoring the highest 68 off 47 deliveries, including eight boundaries and three over boundaries.
Later, Russell blazed his way to an unbeaten 19-ball 49, studded with four fours and as many sixes.
Shakib bowled 3.4 overs, conceded 42 runs, and got the wicket of opener Chris Lynn.
The Bangladesh cricketer came on to bowl the final over with 13 runs required but Russell and Shubnam Gill (18 not out) kept their nerve to guide Kolkata home.
Sunrisers will take on Rajasthan Royals in their next match Friday in Hyderabad.
