Bangladesh's tour of New Zealand has been called off following an attack on a Christchurch mosque in which several people have been killed, reports ESPNcricinfo.

The team were en route to the mosque for Friday prayers at the time of the attack but escaped to the nearby Hagley Oval.

They are currently in lockdown at their team hotel.

New Zealand Cricket confirmed the cancellation of the third Test between the host and visiting Bangladesh through their official account.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by the shocking situation in Christchurch. A joint decision between NZC and the @BCBtigers has been made to cancel the Hagley Oval Test. Again both teams and support staff groups are safe," said NZC in a statement
