Former South Africa cricketer-cum-coach Gary Kirsten believes Bangladesh are a team with great potential. The former India head coach is on a three-day tour of Dhaka for a short term role as the BCB advisor.

Kirsten reached Dhaka Sunday night and met a few senior cricketers, team staffs and influential directors of the board. The former left-handed batsman was in a meeting with BCB president Nazmul Hasan when this report was filed.

"Every team's a different challenge, but I think this (Bangladesh) team has great potential. It has had success against big teams recently. It has a good group of senior players with some talented young players coming through," Kirsten said to the media at a city hotel Tuesday.

"So I think trying to create some stability within the group and making sure the coaching structures are in place, I have no doubt that this team can compete at the highest levels, and I think there is every intention to set some lofty goals in terms of what they want to do over the next 18 months or so," he added.

Kirsten during his short visit will make an internal team audit and put forward a list containing the best possible options with regards to the next Bangladesh head coach. Bangladesh have been without a full-time coach since Chandika Hathurusingha resigned in November last year.

According to Kirsten, Bangladesh are likely to have a new head coach in place in a couple of weeks’ time or before the team travel to the West Indies in July.
