ULAB thrash University of Sydney in Red Bull Campus Cricket opener
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh thrashed University of Sydney (Australia) by 10 wickets with 80 balls to spare in their Red Bull Campus Cricket 2016 opener at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Sri Lanka on Monday. Winning the toss, ULAB sent UoS in to bat first and skittled them out in just 18.1 overs for 74 runs. Anjum Ahmed, Mohammed Islam, Arifur Rahman and Mahbubur Rahman all picked up two wickets each. UoS opener Ben Trevor-Jones top-scored with 28 and was the only batsman who crossed double figures. ULAB reached the modest target of 75 in just 6.4 overs, thanks to a 24-ball half-century by captain Mohammad Hasanuzzaman. The other opener Anjum was unbeaten on 11. A total of eight cricketing nations will battle for the world championship. Along with ULAB and UoS, the other participating teams are Business Management School of Sri Lanka, Loughborough University of England, Marathwada Mitra Mandal College of Commerce of India, University of Central Punjab, Pakistan, Assupol TuksCricket, University of Pretoria, South Africa and Heriot-Watt University, Dubai, UAE. The semi-finals and final of the tournament will be played at Galle International Stadium in Colombo. ULAB, reigning Twenty20 private university champion of Bangladesh, were invited by the tournament organisers as they earlier participated in the same tournament twice in Sri Lanka and England previously. This is the third time ULAB are partaking in the Red Bull Campus Cricket.
