Mahmudullah compounds matters

Mahmudullah tried to play a wild sweep, exposing all his three stumps against Ravichandran Ashwin, only to miss the ball completely which eventually hit the timber

Update : 14 Nov 2019, 06:19 PM

Bangladesh were struggling when Mahmudullah came out to bat as the score was 99 for four.

An important partnership was broken as stand-in Tigers captain Mominul Haque was cleaned up by India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Mominul scored 37 and offered some sort of resistance alongside Mushfiqur Rahim with a 68-run partnership after the fall of early wickets.

Another stand was needed and the responsibility was on Mahmudullah and Mushfiq, two of the most senior players in the team.

But the way Mahmudullah batted during his 30-ball stay at the crease was eye-catching.

The experienced right-hander never looked settled and looked uncomfortable all through his innings.

It seemed like he was on a hurry to score runs, much like his style in the shorter formats.

His innings lasted just 30 deliveries and fetched only 10 runs.

The way he got out was terrible.

Mahmudullah tried to play a wild sweep, exposing all his three stumps against Ashwin, only to miss the ball completely which eventually hit the timber.

Bangladesh were in trouble, it was just the second session on day one and Mahmudullah’s shot was like batting in the slog overs in the shorter formats.

Terrible shot in the end and Bangladesh’s situation get worse.
