BCB: Shakib will return as a better, wiser cricketer

Cricket's governing body in the country to stand beside ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan during his tough time

Update : 29 Oct 2019, 09:53 PM

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said BCB will stand beside Shakib al Hasan in this tough time and that the board hopes he will come back as a better and wiser cricketer and serve Bangladesh for many more years when his sanction will be over.

“There is nothing more shocking than this to us. I have said many times that two players are irreplaceable, Mashrafe [bin Mortaza] as a captain and Shakib as a player. Shakib is not allowed to play now; it’s a first shock for us. We have important series ahead against India. Test Championship is going to start. Our game-plan was made surrounding Shakib. That’s why he was chosen as captain,” Nazmul said in an official press conference Tuesday as the reaction to Shakib’s two-year ban dished out by the International Cricket Council.

“At first I was angry, why did he not tell to the ICC? But this is true that he (Shakib) has admitted his guilt and helped the Anti-Corruption Unit. We have to stand beside Shakib in this difficult time. He is facing really tough time. We want to say we are with him. We will give him every possible support whenever it’s needed.

“We hope he will come back as a better and wiser cricketer and serve Bangladesh for many more years when his sanction will be over. During the suspension, the BCB will continue to support his efforts at returning to cricket. The BCB also respects the ICC’s decision and shares similar sentiments against corruption in cricket,” he concluded.
