Bangladesh national head coach Russell Domingo along with pace bowling coach Charl Langeveldt travelled to Sri Lanka Wednesday to observe the touring Bangladesh A team.

Bangladesh national cricketers have gone for a short break Wednesday following the final of the tri-nation T20I series.

Domingo had the option of taking a breather too, but the former South Africa coach rather opted to travel to Sri Lanka to observe the cricketers in Bangladesh A team.

“I actually want to look into the depth of the national pipeline. I had said while joining that I want to observe cricket here from as close as possible. I had decided to witness this Sri Lanka series long time back. I want to understand the strength that we have. There will be matches and I can observe the cricketers closely during the practice sessions. It will help me to assess the cricketers,” said Domingo to a Bengali web news portal before leaving Dhaka.

Bangladesh A team, led by Mominul Haque and comprising national cricketers in the shape of Soumya Sarkar, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Shadman Islam and others are touring the island for two four-day matches and a three-game one-day series against the host nation.

Though the first four-dayer got washed off, two teams have decided to start the series afresh.

This will allow Domingo to witness the full series and also attend the practice sessions.

“This tour shall help the cricketers to prepare for the Test series against India [in November]. The squad is a mix of old and new faces. I am travelling there to observe everyone rather any particular cricketers. Not only for the India series but I want to observe the cricketers for future,” said Domingo.

Chief of the national selection panel Minhajul Abedin is also travelling to Sri Lanka for the series.

Minhajul is scheduled to travel to the island today along with top-order batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto.
