India captain Virat Kohli did not hesitate in electing to bat first against Bangladesh at Edgbaston since the match is being played on the same pitch where the India-England match took place on Sunday.
Rohit Sharma and Lokesh Rahul opened the innings for India. Bangladesh needed a quick breakthrough to prevent Rohit or Lokesh to settle and score big.
Bangladesh captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza made a bowling change in just the third over of the innings by bringing on Mustafizur Rahman replacing himself. And Rohit gave away a chance in the fourth ball of the fifth over as he tried to clear the boundary with a pull shot.
It was a short of length delivery from Mustafiz and Rohit got the timing wrong. It was heading high in the deep square leg region.
Tamim Iqbal was fielding there and he covered almost 15 meters and got some time to take the catch.
But in the end, he dropped the sitter, a very unusual thing for a fielder like him.
It proved costly for Bangladesh as Rohit went on to score 104 runs and formed a 180-run opening partnership, the highest opening stand in the tournament so far, with KL Rahul.
