Popular Bangladeshi film director, producer, and screenwriter Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has recently announced the casting of Australian actor Megan Mitchell in his upcoming film No Land’s Man. Award-winning US producer Shrihari Sathe has also boarded the project, according to a recent exclusive report by British entertainment magazine Screen Daily.

Mitchell, a Melbourne-based theatre actor, was chosen as the film’s lead female cast, after a year-long search by the director. She is getting her big screen debut in this film alongside internationally acclaimed Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Sacred Games).

New York-based film-maker Sathe received the producers award at the 2019 Independent Spirit Awards, and also is a 2013 Sundance Institute Creative Producing Fellow.

His diverse credits include US indie title It Felt Like Love (2013), Palestinian drama Screwdriver (2018), directed by Bassam Jarbawi, and Tibetan drama The Sweet Requiem, from Tenzing Sonam, and Ritu Sarin.

Siddiqui also boarded the film earlier this year as one of its co-producers along with Shrihari Sathe, Farooki, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, and Anjan Chowdhury.

Tisha, and Farooki will co-produce the project from their production company Chabial, along with Anjan Chowdhury, director of the Square Group—while Siddiqui will produce through his Magic If Films.

Farooki recently told the press: “Getting Shrihari on board is one of the best things that has happened to this project.

“With his vast experience, he is making sure I am reaching my creative goal in the smoothest possible way.”

“David Barker brought the much needed relevance, and narrative flow in the script, and Megan is going to be refreshing in the lead role,” added Farooki.

No Land’s Man was selected for Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Project Market in 2014, the same year that it won the APSA-MPA script development fund.

Currently in pre-production, and scheduled for an early 2020 shoot, the mostly English-language film will portray the story of “a South Asian man struggling with identity issues, whose journey becomes more complicated when he meets an Australian girl in the US.”

Bangladeshi film-maker Farooki wrote the film, with David Barker (White Sun) as a script consultant.

Farooki’s most recent film, Saturday Afternoon, is screening at BIFF’s A Window On Asian Cinema section. However, the film was banned in Bangladesh back in January 2019. Farooki appealed the ban, and is currently awaiting a decision.
