In this time of crisis for the local fans of the series, Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime brings you all the legal options of watching the show in Bangladesh
The most anticipated final season of the popular TV series, “Game of Thrones,” kicked off on Sunday evening (Monday morning in Bangladesh Standard Time, or BST) with an estimated one billion people watching the first episode across 170 countries around the planet, according to CNN.
Unfortunately, Bangladeshi cable operators offer HBO India which does not air “Game of Thrones” (GoT). In this time of crisis for the local fans of the series, Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime brings you all the legal options of watching the show in Bangladesh.
HBO US, which airs the show, is not available in Bangladesh. The only other channel available in the country which will run the show is Star World India. The channel will air an edited version (cutting off all the nudity, blood and gore) of each episode, two days after its worldwide broadcast, on Tuesdays at 10:30pm (BST).

The best possible way to get updated with GoT in real time with the whole world, before your social media feed gets flooded with spoilers, is to subscribe to a VOD (Video on Demand) service that has the rights to stream the HBO produced show. The advantage of these services are that the viewers can catch all of the episodes _ from seasons one to eight _ as many times as they wish on their smartphones, tablets, PCs, and Smart TVs.
The first thing you will need to get onboard with any of these services is an international credit, debit or prepaid card (Visa, Mastercard or Amex) that has enough US dollars endorsed on it to pay for the service.
The first recommended option is HBO Now (the official app of HBO US) which will simultaneously stream each new episode with US air time (every Monday at 7am BST). Both the app and website of HBO Now are very easy to use and viewers get access to tons of behind the scenes content for $15 each month. The app also provides access to a huge number of HBO original TV shows and series, with scores of Hollywood films, as well for the same flat monthly rate.
The problem with this option is that it is only available for US audiences at the moment, but if you add a paid virtual private network or VPN service, like NordVPN, Private Internet Access or ExpressVPN, you can access HBO Now from anywhere in the world, including Bangladesh. These VPN services will cost you from $5 to $20 each month. Before starting the app or logging into it, users need to turn on their paid VPN service from a United States IP.
Amazon Prime Video
This option is for those who are already subscribed to Amazon Prime Video services and can add HBO to their menu for $15 each month. Though Amazon Prime Video is available in Bangladesh, their HBO add on, with access to all GoT episodes and other HBO originals, will require one of the paid VPN options as stated above and use of a US IP.
Subscribers of Hulu can also add “Game of Thrones” to their subscription for $15 each month.
PlayStation 3 or 4 users can subscribe to Playstation Vue's $80-a-month Ultra plan, which includes HBO and Showtime originals and will give you access to stream GoT from your gaming console hooked to a television.
There is another European service for PC, smartphones and smart TVs called NowTV, which also has a GoT package for £7.99 per month. This will also require a paid VPN service subscription and viewers need to login into a UK IP from the VPN app before logging in to NowTV.
This is the official UK-based GoT streaming platform which costs £25 per month, with tons of other British content. To run the Sky Go app or website, you will also need a VPN and login from a UK IP.
Game of Thrones is a fantasy drama television series produced by HBO and created by David Benioff and DB Weiss. It is an adaptation of “A Song of Ice and Fire”, George R R Martin's bestseller series of fantasy novels, the first of which is titled “A Game of Thrones”. The immensely popular and critically acclaimed television series has won numerous awards and will end in May this year. The series has also earned the fame as the world’s most illegally downloaded TV series.
Each of the episodes of the final season stated below will be aired on each of the mentioned VOD platforms at 7am BST:
Episode 1: April 15 (already available on demand on each of the platforms)
Episode 2: April 22
Episode 3: April 29
Episode 4: May 6
Episode 5: May 13
Episode 6: May 20
