Kabir Suman sings for Rohingyas

He was requested to make this song by some of his friends from Bangladesh and West Bengal

Kabir Suman is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in the Bengali music industry. The singer, songwrite and politician recently posted a track on SoundCloud under the title Rohingya. The Rohingya issue is a hot topic in Bangladesh right now and Suman took this opportunity to contribute his part. The song takes an emotional, deeply humanistic tone to depict the struggles of the Rohingya refugees.

Suman’s words along with the video revealed that he was requested to make this song by some of his friends from Bangladesh and West Bengal.

“It came from great unhappiness and distress. I can only hope friends who requested me to make this song should remember that I don’t like doing such songs; it pains me to the utmost.” said Suman, describing the track.

The track also hinted that the singer’s purpose behind his style of music has somewhat changed since he started. He stated that he wanted to devote the remaining years of his life to Bangla Kheyal.

This makes sense, since Suman has become highly selective when it comes to composing soundtracks for films.

The music Suman composed for Jaatishwar is a prime example.
