Shomi Kaiser has been elected as one of the directors of the country’s apex trade body Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
The election for the board of directors of FBCCI took place on May 14, while Shomi Kaiser was announced as an elected director by the Election Board chairman after the final vote count. The media personality got 1077 votes.
Shomi Kaiser became a member of FBCCI’s general council and a voter by representing an e-commerce business outfit, while she was nominated in the election as a representative of the Sammilita Ganotantrik Parishad panel led by Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin.
The daughter of martyred intelectual Shahidullah Kaiser and former Awami League lawmaker Panna Kaiser, Shomi Kaiser is also a producer alongside her acting endeavours. Since 1997, under her production banner Dhansiri Production, she has helmed numerous TV and media productions.
The biennial election of the office bearers for the 2017-19 tenure was held at the capital’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC). This year, two panels contested for 18 directorial posts of the association group. The board of directors will elect the FBCCI president from the association group.
