For Bangabandhu to finally be recognized as the global leader he was is a long time coming
That our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a great man, is an incontrovertible truth.
It was his vision that ultimately led our people to earn sovereignty, and his philosophy that continues to be the guiding light in Bangladesh’s path to the future. Everything we have ever achieved as a people, as a nation has Bangabandhu’s name on it.
And it is only natural that Bangabandhu be finally recognized as the voice of the deprived the world over, more so during the National Month of Mourning.
Deeming Bangabandhu a Friend of the World, the UN recently recalled our Father of the Nation’s contributions in fighting for the rights of the deprived, not just in Bangladesh, but around the world -- emphasizing the struggle and sacrifice that Bangabandhu made as a shining example for the international community.
A true leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman played a key role in attaining UN membership for Bangladesh -- a country that had just earned its sovereignty through a bloody war for liberation back then.
For Bangabandhu to finally be recognized as the global leader he was is a long time coming.
It is quite poignant, and fitting, that the Father of the Nation be given the status of Friend of the World right after his 44th death anniversary, the day when he, along with most of his family, were brutally gunned down in their own home. An absence that the nation continues to feel to this day.
As Bangladesh progresses, it does so under the eternal shadow of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman: Patriot, leader, Friend of the World.
