Going global with tech

It is crucial that we take advantage of this undeniably booming industry

Update : 02 Aug 2019, 09:53 PM

With local software firms exporting to more than 40 countries across the world, it is evident that Bangladesh could soon emerge as a formidable player in the field of tech.

It is even more encouraging to see that around 30 companies have become leading brands abroad, from neighbouring countries such as India, Bhutan, and Nepal, to further away in the US, the UK, and Japan, thereby adding to the momentum of Bangladesh’s rise to the top as a leading exporting nation.

Such feats go to show the potential that the youth of this country possess, and how, under the right set of circumstances, local companies can reach great heights and make headway into areas in which we previously lagged behind.

This achievement would not have been possible without the government prioritizing ICT, and with 3,000 IT and software firms catering to an annual market size of Tk9,000 crore, it is only a matter of time before more and more of these firms make their presence felt internationally.

However, at this juncture, it is crucial that we take advantage of this undeniably booming industry, and work towards improving the service provided by our IT sector even further, because certain software and services are not quite up to the mark as of the present moment.

It is clear that if we provide the necessary support to other industries, they too can shine, and with more and more of the young population entering the job market, and creating their own start-ups, it is imperative that we provide them the assurance that Bangladesh indeed can be a land of opportunity.
