Summer in style: Part 2
For the people of the sub-continent, there are a set of conventional career choices. In light of this, the idea of becoming a fashion designer usually strikes people as a bizarre career choice. Talking to Avenue T about fashion designing, the founder of the new clothing line ‘The Rahmans’ reveals how she battled these views to pursue her dreams.
The second year BBA student of North South, Silva Rahman, contradicting her otherwise shy personality, took a bold step to pursue her ambition. She turned her lifelong desire of creating a clothing line into reality along with her mother, Rehana Rahman, naming it ‘The Rahmans’ to represent their whole family. In the midst of the competitive online clothing ventures, where pastel tones are setting trends, Silva donned her mannequins with her favourite dark colours and heavy stone work. The verdict? Not even a year old, The Rahmans has received overwhelming response from their customers.
Silva Rahman is very playful when it comes to designing her dresses. Along with heavy stone work with sequins and Jaipur stones on the kameez, she introduced uniquely designed ghararas and lehengas for her customers to stand out. She believes it is her creativity and strong intuition that help her push through in this journey. Indubitably, The Rahmans was a hit when Silva exhibited her intricate designs of Indo-Western dresses on the runway of Glamshow.
Greatly inspired by Manish Malhotra and Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s designs and her father’s hardworking and honest personality, this passionate designer progresses in the venture keeping the demands of the youth and affordability in mind. She ends the conversation hoping to establish a good name in the market while also studying to be a Fashion Designer in the near future to expand her horizons.
