Transforming the jewellery game, with the promise to make you stand out, Glued Together comes with an array of handmade adornments that are sure to make a bold statement. This month, we got in touch with them to hear their story.
When and how did the idea of Glued Together come about?
Glued Together was not a planned business initiative. It started abruptly, when, one night, I decided to make a handmade lamp for my niece's birthday. Later, I uploaded photos of that for sale upon my mother's encouragement. The response was huge and, thus, I ended up opening a page. Glued Together was primarily a handmade craft page, which is how the name came about.
Where do you get the inspiration for your designs from?
As the page was growing, it became impossible for me to deliver the craft items on time along with a full-time job. I wanted to keep the creative side of the page, and thus decided to design jewellery. I had always been drawn to our traditional designs as a child, and most of my inspiration comes from my aunts, grandmother as well as my mother. My mother is my biggest inspiration. Every time I come up with a sketch, she is the first person I go to for an opinion. I try to take inspiration from anywhere and everywhere. Apart from my aunts’ and grandmother's trunks, I find inspiration starting from a painting at the back of a rickshaw to endless designs on the internet. I try to add a personal touch and come up with something that cannot be found anywhere else.
Tell us about the designs. How do you make sure your jewellery stands out?
I come up with new jewellery every three to four months in order to keep the designs unique. I am very selective about the form of the pieces, as well as which beads and stones I am picking, making sure of the quality and uniqueness of the jewellery. Glued Together has a wide range of designs, where the ethnic twist enables the statement pieces to be worn even with a casual outfit, making sure that we can serve a wide range of customers.
What's in store for the future?
There are a lot of customers living abroad who have continuously requested us to make our jewellery available for them. We are planning to expand our delivery locations in the future.
