Author of more than a dozen books, Mashiul Alam has carved a reputation in Bangladeshi literature with his fiction and translations. During his academic years in the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Moscow, he developed a keen interest in Russian, which later inspired him to translate original Russian texts into Bangla.
Published in 1994, his debut short story collection Rupali Rui o Onnanno Golpo was well received. His 1999 debut novel Ami Shudhu Meyetike Bachate Cheyechi was later adapted into a TV series titled Palayanparba.
Published in 2002, his Mangsher Karbar (The Meat Market) was a tour de force, widely acclaimed by readers. The eponymous story from the anthology was later translated into English by Shabnam Nadiya. It was published in Asymptote, a literary webzine based in Taiwan.
Among his other books, Abedalir Mrittur Por, Ghora Masud, Tanushreer Shonge Dwitiyo Raat, Nabilachorit, Baba, Jahangir Gate Khola Ache and Pakistan have earned their place in the bookshelves.
