Barisal city and Jhenaidah town have welcomed the winter season with much festivity at the end of Bangla month Poush amid cold waves.
A three-day-long Poush Mela, a fair welcoming the winter, was held at the Jagadish Saraswat Girls' High School playground in Barisal city between Friday and Sunday. The colourful event, which included exhibits of rural life and Pitha Utsab, was attended by a huge number of people from different corners of the city despite the mild cold wave that is sweeping over the region.
On the other hand, a daylong Pitha Utsab (festival of rice cakes) and a kite flying competition were held at the Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Stadium in Jhenaidah on Sunday. At least 50 types of pithas were available in the numerous stalls. Thousands of people had thronged the festival venue where they enjoyed the tasty treats and travelled back to childhood by joining the kite flying competition.
