A group of armed robbers shot and killed a youth in the capital’s Jatrabari area early on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Bokhtiar Mohammad Latif, 20, son of Jahid al Latif.
Family sources said Latif had recently completed his O-levels from an English medium school in city’s Dhanmondi area.
Confirming the shooting, Jatrabari police station officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam said a gang of six to seven robbers entered Latif's home after breaking down the door around 3:30am. They then looted valuables, including cash and gold ornaments, whilst holding the family members hostage.
“At one stage, the robbers shot Latif in his chest as he resisted them,” he added.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
No case had been filed in connection with the incident when this report was filed at around 2pm.
