The Chittagong Customs will introduce ASYCUDA World, the most recent automated system for customs data designed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), from July 1.
Golam Hossain, chairman of the National Board of Revenue, said taxation activities would become easier with the introduction of the new system as it would help to ensure transparency on Tuesday at a seminar.
‘It will curtail risk in realising tax since expenditure of the importers and exporters will also be reduced,’ he said while addressing the seminar titled ‘Development of ASYCUDA World: A single window in Bangladesh customs’. The project manager Sayad Musfiqur Rahman said although ASYCUDA World system would be introduced on July 1, the earlier ASYCUDA++ and data-soft systems would also remain functional till August.
Members of the NBR Farid Uddin and Hossain Ahmed, member of the Chittagong Port Authority Nazrul Islam, and president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mahabubul Alam addressed the seminar among others.
Representatives of the stakeholders of the customs, including freight forwarders, shipping agents and clearing and forwarding agencies, attended the seminar presided over by the project director Mohammed Nasiruddin.
