DMP: No New Year celebration allowed in public places

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned all New Year’s Eve celebrations in public places. 

The directive was issued at the DMP news portal on Saturday, ahead of the celebration of New Year on Monday midnight.

It also has a number of plans to control traffic in Dhaka.

According to the DMP news portal, the restrictions are as follows:

Residents of Gulshan, Banani, and Baridhara are requested to return home before 8pm. After 8pm, they may only use Kamal Ataturk Avenue (Kakoli) and the Amtoli crossing (Mohakhali) to enter these areas as other roads will remain closed.

From 8pm onwards, city dwellers would not be allowed to use the crossings at: Phoenix Road of Tejgaon Industrial Area, Road No 11 in Banani, Chairman Bari, Amtoli, the Shooting Club, Badda Link, DOHS, and Notun Bazar; to enter the Gulshan, Banani, and Baridhara areas. However, the roads may be used as exits.

Resident teachers, students, and staff are requested to enter the university area at the Nilkhet and Shahbagh crossing after showing valid identity cards from 6pm on Monday to 6am on Tuesday.

Palashi crossing, Vaskarja crossing, Bakshi Bazar crossing, Romana Chattar crossing, Doel Chattar crossing, and Shahidulla Hall crossing will remain off limits to all types of motor vehicles.

All the vehicles coming from the High Court point could take left turn at Doyel Chattar and exit through Chankharpul crossing.

No one may drive after drinking.

In November, the Ministry of Home Affairs banned all New Year’s Eve celebrations in public places and rooftops due to the 11th general election.
