Update : 19 May 2019, 12:29 PM

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said he is starting the second innings of his life after narrowly escaping death.

"I am physically and mentally well," Quader, also the General Secretary of the ruling Awami League, told the media during a views-exchange meeting at the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry around 11am on Sunday. He was joining work after nearly two and a half months.

"I will visit the central party office tomorrow [Monday]," he added. "I have to start working slowly and steadily. After a month and a half, I can start working with full enthusiasm."

The minister said the party council would be held soon.

"My main challenges are to reduce traffic and realize the implementation of mega projects," Quader said. "The road systems are much better, and I am hopeful Eid holiday-makers will face no road troubles."

Earlier, Road Transports and Bridges Secretary Md Nazrul Islam welcomed Quader.

Quader returned home on May 15, after completing his bypass surgery at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. The surgery took place on March 20.

Quader had left for Singapore on March 4, after being admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) with chest pains the day before.
