Police arrested a man on Wednesday for reportedly raping his own daughter in Bashan of Itahata union, Gazipur.
The accused, Emarat, 40, is a local brick kiln worker in the area.
He was arrested on Wednesday morning when his wife filed a case against him with Bashan police station, said its Officer-in-Charge, AKM Kawser Chowdhury.
Preparations are underway to send the victim to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College for medical tests, he added.
OC Kawser said Emarat's wife works at a nearby garment factory, who said in her testimony that she had left for work on Monday morning, leaving their daughter with her father and her mother-in-law.
According to the victim, her grandmother went outside for some work, when her father entered her room and raped her.
She revealed this to her mother the next day, after which they both confronted Emarat. He lunged at them with a knife, threatening to kill them.
Mother and daughter left the house soon afterwards and revealed the incident to locals in hopes of justice, but to no avail.
Later, she filed a case on Wednesday, and Emarat was arrested from their house.
He denied the rape accusation, citing conspiracy against him by the mother and daughter for not marrying their daughter off to an elderly man of the mother’s choice.
Further investigation will reveal actual details, said OC Kawser.
