A woman has been arrested in Feni after she filed a fabricated case over the abduction of her 11-month-old-son, who she sold off to another woman for only Tk50,000 after failing to repay a loan.

Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested two more women in connection with the incident.

Feni model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain said a case was filed against the trio on Monday afternoon.

Feni DB police, who were investigating the abduction case, also rescued the child from Kalaraita village of Senbagh upazila in Noakhali early Monday, DB Inspector Ranjit Kumar Barua said.

The arrestees are Rehana Akter, mother of the child, Parvin Akter, both residents of Nangalkot upazila in Comilla; and Parvin's sister Mafia Akter, of Kalaraita village.

Ranjit said Rehana filed the abduction case with Feni model police station on September 20.

According to the case statement, Rehana claimed her youngest son was kidnapped in Mohipal area of Feni town on her way to her father's house in Feni from Nangalkot on the day.

At one stage of the investigation, Rehana admitted she sold the baby to Parvin only to repay her loan.

Relatives of Rehana said she borrowed Tk50,000 from a local cooperative society.

Md Alauddin, father of the child, said although his wife told him that their son was abducted, he did not believe the incident.

"I told police about my suspicion and they rescued my son," he said.
