Five killed in road accidents

In Narayanganj, a valiant freedom fighter was killed in a road accident

At least five people were killed in separate road accidents in Rangpur, Feni, Narayanganj, and Magura yesterday. 

In Rangpur, a college student was killed when she was run over by a bus while crossing the road near Bangladesh Rice Research Institute around 12pm.

The deceased identified as Iti Akhter, 19, from Tamfat area of Mirganj, died on the spot.

Tajhat police station OC Roknuzzaman said: "The body of the deceased has been recovered, and sent to the morgue for autopsy." 

In Feni, a baker was killed in a car crash near the Muhirganj area of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway around 10am.

The deceased identified as Azgar Ali, 35, was the son of Abdul Ali of Charchandia area of Sonagazi upazila.

Mahipal highway police station OC Md Shahjahan Khan said: "Azgar was travelling in a rickshaw van to obtain supplies for his bakery when he was hit by a covered van. He died on the spot."

In Narayanganj, a valiant freedom fighter was killed in a road accident in the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Khan Mohammed Khurshid Alam, 65.

According to locals and police, "Khurshid was travelling from Bishwaroad to Ruposhi on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway by auto-rickshaw around 1pm. At this point, a speeding Dhaka-bound covered van collided with the auto-rickshaw. Khurshid died on the spot. The auto-rickshaw driver was severely injured."

Rupganj police station SI Md Shafiq said: “The deceased’s body has been handed over to family members."

In Magura, a motorcyclist was killed, and his passenger wounded when the vehicle collided with a tree at Dariapur Hafezia Madrasa area of Sreepur upazila on Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Shawon Biswas, 19, and the injured as Limon, 20.

Sreepur police station OC Mahabubur Rahman said: "Shawon was admitted to Magura 250-bed Sadar Hospital, where he died early Saturday. Limon is being treated at Faridpur Medical College Hospital."

In Bhola, a motorcyclist was killed when he lost control of his vehicle, and hit a roadside tree on the Bhola-Char Fashion road in Kamaruddin area in the morning.

The deceased Mosharef Hossain, was a former UP chairman of Daulatkhan upazila. 

Daulatkhan police station OC Bojlar Rahman said: “Family members collected his body, and we have not received any complaint in this regard.”
