Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the pillow scam in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant was just a pilferage.

Quader said while talking to reporters in Bhulta area of Narayanganj on Sunday.

Saying that this government has not given any leeway to corruption, he also said: “Many of our lawmakers are facing legal battle in connection with corruption allegations brought by the Anti-Corruption Commission.”

Claiming that around 17 crore people live in the country, and there will be such corruption, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said: “Corruption is a way of life across the world. It is not only a matter of Bangladesh.”

“Charges have been framed against many of them, while many others have been tried. No one will be spared if they indulge in corruption,” Quader said.

When asked if there is a rift in the Awami League behind the action against the recent student front president and general secretary, Obaidul Quader said that appropriate action was taken against them for breaching discipline.

The people who breached the discipline have been asked to resign. This is a very serious move taken by the Prime Minister herself.

The leader and all the leaders will take proper decision for the next conference, so that new committee can be formed. The party has already given show cause notices to 175 indiscipline members, who broke the rule, Quader said.

On the opening of the Bhulta flyover, Quader said: "The flyover has been built costing Tk375 crore, and it has four lanes. Very soon the Prime Minister will inaugurate the flyover through video conference."
