A Rohingya refugee was killed in a landmine explosion in Bandarban on Tuesday night.

The body of the deceased, Md Shahjahan, 32, was recovered near Ghumdhum border of Naikhongchhari upazila on the Bangladesh side.

He was a resident of the Cox's Bazar Rohingya camp.  The incident took place along the border around 7pm on Tuesday.

Ghumdhum police outpost in-charge Emon Chowdhury said: "Upon receiving the information, the body has been recovered and sent to the Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.

"The state of the body suggests that he was killed in a landmine explosion, as his legs were blown clean off."

It has been a long time complaint of locals that Myanmar security forces had been planting landmines along the border with Bangladesh in Tumbru, Ghumdhum, and Ashartali areas of the Naikhongchhari upazila.
