4 killed in road accidents

One of the accidents leaves eight injured

Four people were killed in separate road accidents in Bogra, Satkhira, and Gazipur districts on Friday.

In Bogra, a microbus collided head-on with a Jaipurhat bound oil-laden truck, killing a librarian and leaving eight others injured. 

This happened on the second bypass highway in Manikchak area on in the morning.

Sohel Hossain, 40, from Panch village of Kalai upazila in Jaipurhat, was accompanying his wife to her examination centre, when the accident happened.

All the injured, including Sohel, his wife and the microbus driver, were admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC), where doctors declared Sohel dead.

Bogra Silimpur police outpost Sub Inspector (SI) Abdul Kuddus said: “The truck and the microbus have been seized but the driver and the helper of the truck managed to flee.”

In Satkhira, a motorcycle collided head-on with an engine-run van in Kaliganj upazila, killing the motorcycle rider.

The incident happened on Shyamnagar road in Ichakur area around 9am.

The deceased was identified as Sadek Hossain, 18, from Parulgacha village of the same upazila. 

Shyamnagar police station SI Rokon Mia said: “Sadek was rescued by the locals and admitted to Shyamnagar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.”

In Gazipur, two men were killed when the motorcycle carrying them collided head-on with a truck in Mogorkhal area of the municipality around 3pm. 

The deceased were identified as Rubel Chowdhury, 25, and his cousin Saddam Hossain, 24, died on the spot, said Bason police station OC AKM Kawsar Ahmed. 

Police recovered the bodies but the truck fled the spot.
