A newly-wed couple has committed suicide, barely after three weeks of tying the knot, in Magura.
The incident took place at Raghobdair village in Sadar upazila around 5pm on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Nirab Biswas, 20, and his wife, Sraboni Biswas, 18.
Quoting family sources, Magura Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said Nirab and Sraboni had a love marriage about 25 days ago. However, there was disapproval from the girl's family and the couple started their conjugal life at Nirab's place.
The couple tied themselves with Sraboni's saree and took their lives while hanging from a bamboo beam in their room, he added.
Police recovered the bodies at night and sent them to a local hospital for autopsy, the OC said.
OC Saiful said the disapproval of Sraboni's parents might be a reason behind their suicide. However, an unnatural death case was filed in this connection with Magura Sadar police station.
