An eighth grade madrasa girl was reportedly raped by the madrasa’s principal on several occasions at his home, where the girl was a domestic help for five years.
The accused, S M Kamal Hossain, was the principal of Teroana Shah-Mahmudia Senior Madrasa of Sadar upazila in Jhalakathi and is now on the run, said Jhalakathi Sadar police station OC, Shanit Kumar Gayen.
The girl was from a poverty stricken family, and Kamal took advantage of her vulnerability and had been raping her for a long time, the OC added.
According to the case filed by the girl’s father, the girl had been working as house help in Kamal’s home for five years. Recently, the principal’s wife caught him raping the girl on Thursday. Following the incident, she was kept locked inside Kamal’s brother’s house.
On Saturday, police rescued the girl upon information.

In Chuadanga, three men reportedly gangraped a sixth grade madrasa student, abducting her from her home to a nearby mango orchard in Notidanga of Alamdanga upazila.
Montu, Shariful, and Raju broke into their neighbour’s house on Saturday night, beat up the parents, abducted the girl, and left her at the orchard after the gangrape.
The girl’s father filed a case and police arrested Montu in connection with the incident, said Alamdanga police station OC Asaduzzaman.
In Satkhira, a third grade schoolgirl was raped by her neighbour on Saturday morning at Gobindakati village in Sadar upazila.
According to the case filed by the girl’s father, the accused Rasel Hossain, 22, alias Shaju Sardar, took the girl to his room yesterday and raped her.
The rape victim is currently under treatment at Satkhira Sadar upazila and is now out of danger, said Resident Medical Officer Dr Md Hafizullah of the hospital.
In Manikganj, police arrested a man yesterday for raping a college student promising marriage in Saturia upazila.
The accused, Shariful Islam, is a former general secretary of Dargram Union BCL.
According to the case filed by the girl’s father, Shariful raped the girl several times promising marriage. Recently, on Saturday he took her to his relative’s house and raped her again.
In Savar, an indigenous woman was reportedly gangraped by three men, while her husband was held captive at her house in Vendabar of Ashulia on Tuesday.
Police arrested one Rony on Saturday night, but the other two, Joy and Shamim, fled and are still absconding, said Ashulia police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Fajukul.
According to the case filed by the woman yesterday, Joy, Shamim, and Rony demanded Tk2 lakh in extortion money from the couple, after which the husband was beaten and tied up, while the woman was gangraped.
