Teacher accused of sexual harassment, student demand punishment

Police arrested a man for raping a mentally challenged minor from Zirabo, Ashulia on Tuesday

At least 200 students of Kendua High School demanded punishment of a teacher accused of sexual harassment in the Dhanbari upazila of Tangail.

According to sources, the accused, Obaidul Islam, an English teacher of the school allegedly harassed both female and male students by threatening to fail them.

The students, along with guardians and locals gathered at the school grounds to protest. However, the protest took a turn when Obaidul filed a case against the protesters.

The students filed complaints with the Mymensingh Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Upazila Secondary Education Officer(USEO).

Dhanbari UNO Arifa Sidikka confirmed receiving the complaint and said, she asked the USEO to investigate the matter.

USEO Matiur Rahman Khan said: "Upon primary investigation, we found the truth to the allegations. We will soon take actions against the accused."

Man arrested for rape in Savar

Police arrested a man for raping a mentally challenged minor from Zirabo, Ashulia on Tuesday.

According to police, the accused Monowar Mandal, 42, who is a relative of the 11-year-old, raped her at her house finding her alone there. Hearing her screams, locals rescued the girl and Monowar fled the scene.

After a case was filed by the child’s mother, police arrested Monowar and sent him to court.

Confirming the incident, Ashulia police station Sub-Inspector Bijan Kumar Das said: "We sent the girl to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical check up."

Youth assaulted for protesting sexual harassment

A youth was assaulted for protesting sexual harassment of a seventh grader in the Ishwardi upazila of Pabna on Monday morning.

According to locals, Rafiqul Islam Akash, 17, a relative of the girl, was beaten up by the accused Apon Sheikh, 18.

The incident was videotaped by locals where Apon was seen to attack Rafiqul and few others who were trying to stop him.

Confirming the matter, Ishwardi police station OC Bahauddin Farouqee said: "The victim has been sent to the Upazila Health Complex. We are investigating the incident."
