A 26-year-old Chinese worker has been killed—and seven others have been injured—in a clash at Payra Power Plant in Patuakhali.

The deceased, Jhan Yang Fang, had worked as an electrician at Kalapara Power Plant in Nishanbaria area.

The Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMC) on-duty doctor, Md Mahbubur Rahman, said six Chinese and two Bangladeshi workers were brought to the hospital.

SBMC Director Dr Md Bakir Hossain told Dhaka Tribune: “The injured workers were admitted to the hospital early on Tuesday. Of them, Jhan Yang Fang died due to excessive bleeding from his head, early on Wednesday.”

The remaining injured Chinese workers have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment, he added.

Two Bangladeshi workers—Mostafiz and Rahman—are still undergoing treatment at the SBMC.

Locals claimed a Bangladeshi worker, named Sabindra Das, died when he fell off the terrace of the 1320-MW power plant,.

Rumours spread that a Chinese worker pushed Sabindra from the terrace, leading to a clash among the workers.

They claimed police and officials from the district administration brought the situation under control and sent the injured to hospital.

Kalapara police station Officer in-Charge (OC) Md Monirul Islam said: “The situation is under control and the investigation is underway.”
