The Chinese ambassador also met Rohingya representatives during his visit to the refugee camps
Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Zhang Zuo has said China wants to play a positive role in Rohingya repatriation and is working closely with the Bangladeshi government in this regard.
He remarked this during his meeting with Rohingya Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, Md Abul Kalam in Cox's Bazar around 5pm on Tuesday.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Kalam said: "The Chinese ambassador has informed us that observing the Rohingya situation in Bangladesh.”
“He also said China wants to coordinate with Bangladesh and have a new and positive role regarding this issue,” he added.
The meeting was held after the Chinese ambassador's visit to Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya of Cox’ Bazar where he spoke with the concerned officials and met Rohingya representatives and assured them about China's assistance in repatriating Rohingyas to Myanmar.
Addressing the proceedings, Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH) Chairman Muhib Ullah said: "The Chinese ambassador has ensured us that he will inform the Chinese government and their people bout our suffering.”
“He also asked us if we are willing to go back to Myanmar with the Chinese authority mediating the negotiation," Muhib added.
The Chinese ambassador concluded his visit to the Rohingya camps around 4:30pm on Tuesday.
