A student is in critical health, reportedly being given the wrong injection at Gopalganj General Hospital on Tuesday.
The patient, Mariam, is a second-year student of Sociology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Gopalganj.
Mariam was taken to the ICU (Intensive care unit) of Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital in Khulna in critical condition.
According to Mariam’s father, she was taken to the operation theatre for surgery on Tuesday morning.
An operation theater nurse pushed an anesthetic instead of an antibiotic injection into her.
Mariam became unconscious and was rushed to Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital on an emergency.
Gopalganj General Hospital Deputy Director, Dr Faridul Islam Chowdhury, said: “The incident is unexpected.
“A probe committee has been formed to investigate the matter and has been asked to submit the investigation report within three working days.”
If the nurse is found guilty, steps will be taken against her, added the deputy director.
