At least five activists have been injured after a fight broke out during the national council of the leftist student organization Bangladesh Chhatra Union.

The incident took place during the organization’s 39th national council at Jahangirnagar University’s  on Monday morning.

The injured members are Chhatra Union Dhaka College unit President Jubair Pradhan, General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Sumon, Office Secretary Probhat Kaisar, Dhaka district unit Shariful Islam and Rajshahi district unit President Partha Pratim Pandey.

Among them, Jubair has been admitted to a Dhaka hospital with serious injuries.

The injured have accused activists of the Jahangirnagar unit of attacking them.

However, the unit’s President Nazir Amin Chowdhury denied the allegations, as did outgoing central general secretary Liton Nandi.

“Allegations of fighting are completely false. Some people are bound to be upset when a new committee is formed. When they were trying to leave the council, they were stopped,” he said.
