In Barguna, police have arrested a man accused of raping an eighth-grader at Patharghata upazila

At least eight women were reportedly raped in seven districts of the country on Sunday and on Monday.

In Naogaon, a court on Monday sent a young man to jail on charges of raping an indigenous teenage girl in Dhamirhat upazila of the district.

Accused Sujan Hasda, 22, is a resident of Gopalpur village in Sapahar upazila, said Dhamoirhat police station OC Zakirul Islam.

The OC said the ninth-grader, a resident of Alampur in Dhamoirhat upazila, was kidnapped by Sujan on Sunday and violated at his home.

Police said the girl and her peers went to a social forestry area at Shimultali after a school program on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh on Sunday.

At one stage, the victim became separated from her peers. The youth then abducted her on his auto-rickshaw and took her to his home, where he violated her.

After being informed by the victim's family members, police rescued the girl from Sujan's home around 2:30am and arrested Sujan.

The victim's father lodged a case with the police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act yesterday.

In Pabna, a female seventh grader was reportedly raped by an  auto-rickshaw driver and his associates at Aminpur village in Jatsakhni union of Bera upazila on Sunday.

According to sources, the girl, a seventh grade student of Emon Ali High School of the upazila, was returning home via an auto-rickshaw after visiting her sister's house in Digholdi village. Auto-rickshaw driver Jahurul Islam, 26, and his cohort Alamin took her to a secluded area after leaving the village and raped her several times.

Locals rescued her and took her home after the rapists had left her in critical condition.

Later, the victim’s mother filed a case with Aminpur police station accusing Jahurul and Alamin of the rape.

Monirul Islam, OC of the police station, confirmed the incident.

In Sirajganj, a young man was arrested on Sunday night for reportedly trying to rape a six-year-old child at Paikosha village of Sadar upazila.

The victim's father said Hasem Ali took his daughter and another child to a nearby abandoned room on Friday afternoon, by luring them with chocolates, and tried to violate the girl.

Locals rushed in when the victim started screaming, but Hasem managed to flee, he said.

OC of Sadar police station Mohammad Daud said the victim's father has filed a case over the incident.

In Bagerhat, an 11-year-old from  Baruipara was raped by her neighbour on Saturday night.

According to sources, the minor was sleeping alone at her grandmother's home when the neighbour, named Nizam, broke into the house.

He gagged the minor during the rape to prevent her screams. Nizam escaped when the minor’s aunt knocked on the door.

The next day, the child’s uncle Rafiqul Islam Didar went to Nizam's house to ask him what happened the day before. However, Nizam, his son, and wife ganged up on Didar and beat him up.

On Sunday night, Didar filed a case against Nizam and his son and wife.

"If not punished, crime rates will go on increasing. We stand in support of child rape victims and will locally protest against such crimes. We expect law and enforcement agencies to take quick action for such crimes," he added.

Pankaj Chandra Rai, assistant superintendent of police of Bagerhat Model police station, said: "A case has been filed and the survivor has undergone medical tests at Bagerhat Sadar Hospital. We are working to arrest the people accused."

A month ago, Jalil secretly built up a relationship with the schoolgirl and on Thursday morning, he took her to Horinghata reserve forest where he allegedly raped her.

However, he along with his friend raped the girl.

The victim is now undergoing treatment at the one-stop crisis centre of the hospital, he said.

Her mother-in-law grabbed the infant child and locked themselves inside a room. She cried out for help through the window.

Her father-in-law Milon Dey was stabbed when he tried to confront the assailants, he added.

Mamoni's mother-in-law believes that the youths entered the house through the roof after climbing the boundary wall.
