The student's mother filed a rape case with Patharghata police
Police have arrested a man accused of raping an eighth-grader at Patharghata upazila in Barguna last week.
The accused, Jalil Pada, a mobile phone flexiload vendor, was arrested from Gazi Mahmud village of Noltona Union in Barguna Sadar Upazila, around 11pm on Sunday. He was to appear in court on Monday afternoon.
On Friday, the girl's mother had filed a rape case against two suspects with Patharghata police.
Confirming the arrest, Hanif Sikder, officer-in-charge of Patharghata police station, said: "Police went for a drive as soon as the complaint was made and arrested him from Barguna Upazila on Sunday night."
A month ago, Jalil secretly built up a relationship with the schoolgirl and on Thursday morning, he took her to Horinghata reserve forest where he allegedly raped her.
Altaf Hossain, a trawler pilot, came upon the scene and also attempted to rape her.
The girl was rescued and taken to hospital by locals.
