In Sadar Dakshin upazila, a tenth grader was killed, and five other passengers of a "Leguna" human hauler were injured, after the driver of the vehicle lost control over the steering and crashed it into a roadside ditch.

Meanwhile in Chandina upazila, another female school student was killed after being hit by a gas truck in Kutumbapur area around 9am on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Mahmuda Akhter, daughter of Monir Hossain of Nazirpur village, was a ninth-grade student of Kutumbapur High School.

Following her death, agitating students of the school took to the street and blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway for an hour.

Chandina police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Foysal said: “The incident occurred when the student was returning from an Independence Day rally and the truck crushed her. She died on the spot.”

Students barricaded the highway and set tyres on fire. Later police rushed to the spot, removing the students from the road and clearing the way, the OC added.
