An organizing committee member of the Prosit group of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) has been shot dead in Khagrachhari.
The incident took place when unknown miscreants shot the man and fled in Panchhari Sadar union’s Akshaypara area on Friday.
The deceased, Binasan Chakma alias Shushomoy, was a resident of the Ghilachhari area in Rangamati’s Naniarchar upazila.
UPDF Organizer Michael Chakma blamed the supporters of Jana Samhati Samity (MN Larma Play Group), one of the ethnic group-based political parties in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, for the activist’s murder.
Panchhari police station OC, Nurul Alam, said: “The police recovered the bullet-riddled body and sent it for autopsy.”
However, the police are yet to arrest anyone for the killing, he added.
It is believed these recurring incidents are the result of conflict over establishing dominance in the hill tracts region.
