Ctg doctor’s suicide: Wife sent to jail after remand

A Chittagong court on Saturday ordered that Tanjila Haque Chowdhury Mitu, widow of Dr Mustafa Murshed Akash, be sent to jail in the case filed over the "suicide" of her husband.

Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Salem Md Noman issued the order after Chandgaon police produced Mitu before the court following the completion of her three-day remand in the case, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) Kazi Shahabuddin said.

On January 31, Akash, 33, reportedly took his life over a family feud in Chandgaon residential area in Chittagong, after an altercation with his wife over her alleged extramarital affairs.

According to family members, Akash shared photos of his wife on his Facebook profile, posting about her alleged illicit affairs, before announcing his decision to end his life.

Mitu, her father Anisul haque Chowdhury, her mother Shamim Shelly, her sister Sanzila Haque Chowdhury, and her alleged boyfriends Mahbubul Haque, and an Indian citizen referred to only as Patel, were named as accused in the case filed over Akash's death by his mother Jobeda Khanam.
