Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal informed journalists on the matter after Thursday's Ecnec meeting
The government is set to construct multi-storey residential buildings at all districts and upazilas to facilitate accommodation for freedom fighters who are struggling.
A total 532 buildings will be constructed across the country under the project, which was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Thursday.
The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) will start construction this year and plans complete the work by June 2020.
The total cost of the project has been estimated at Tk 2,273.21 crore. The Liberation War Affairs Ministry will lead the implementation of the project.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal informed journalists on the matter after Thursday’s Ecnec meeting at the National Economic Council in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. It was the 19 th Ecnec meeting of the current fiscal year, with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in chair.
The planning minister said the total cost would be provided by the national exchequer.
A total 8,000 flats – each 982 square feet – will be set up in the buildings for insolvent freedom fighters.
Earlier on January 18, 2015, the Prime Minister gave directives to the Liberation War Affairs Ministry to allocate 10,000 flats among insolvent freedom fighters across the country.
The Ecnec meeting on Thursday approved a total of six projects involving an overall cost of Tk 7,466.73 crore.
Of the total estimated cost, Tk7,026 crore will come from the national exchequer, and the rest will be sourced as project assistance.
