Police have recovered the bodies of four Rohingya who drowned in the Naf River estuary while trying to flee the violence in Rakhine state of Myanmar.
The bodies were recovered from Nayapara and Paschimpara points in Teknaf upazila on Thursday morning.
Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Teknaf Model police station OC Main Uddin Khan said several overloaded boats carrying Rohingya refugees had capsized in the river in the past three weeks
“So far, we have recovered a total of 104 bodies, most of them women and children,” he added.
According to International Organisation for Migration (IOM), as of Wednesday, at least 379,000 Rohingya refugees entered Bangladesh since the latest spell of violence erupted in the Rakhine state.
